TACKLING TOBACCO IN THE FCTC ERA: SMOKE-FREE LEGISLATIONA AND OTHER TOBACCO CONTROL MEASURES IN EUROPE

The aims of this presentation are to position the WHO European Region on the global map –where is Europe in terms of smoking prevalence and tobacco attributable mortality. In terms of solutions, the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control, the presentation evaluates where Europe is in terms of treaty implementation. Special attention is given to smoke-free policies along other key policy measures based on the policy data from the Global Tobacco Control Report. In light of the World No Tobacco Day 2012 and its topic, presentation discusses the implementation of the article 5.3 of the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control and the role of tobacco industry to interfere into public health policy making in Europe.
